How to Leave the Gender Critical Movement
If you’re thinking of leaving GC World, this guide is for you. Anyone who wants a better understanding of what’s happening in the movement could also benefit.
You’ve seen red flags in the gender critical movement, and they’ve created a tug of war within your heart. I’ve been there. I get it. That’s why I wrote this guide to help you make a GC exit when you’re ready.
Three of the key themes we’ll focus on:
. Reconnection
. Protection
. Recovery
RECONNECTION
The GC cult warned you’d lose friends, family, and jobs for your beliefs. That can become a self-fulfilling prophecy for those who let it. The good news is most of the relationships you damaged can be repaired if you sincerely pursue healing.
Reconnect with the loved ones you pushed away. This will put you back in touch with your humanity.
Before I left the movement, talking to longtime friends helped me see I’d lost myself to a hateful ideology that was based on misinformation and propaganda. My friends were patient and let me vent when I needed. They didn’t give up on me, and that love helped me reconnect with myself.
Reconnection led to self-reflection, which created a door to freedom.
It’s time to ‘go home’ to your life and the people who really have your back. A movement won’t give you fulfillment. Only your real life can.
PROTECTION
If you’ve been doing this anonymously then I have good news. You’re free to go, no strings attached. Well, you might get flashbacks. You might also randomly cry. You left a horrible world, and it will take time to process and heal. However, staying anon protected you from everything else I have to address in this section.
Anyone who used their real name and reputation, like I did, will likely want to correct the record and publicly make amends. If you‘ve been going to physical meetings, dating other cult members, or entertaining GCs in your home, leaving will be more difficult. In that case, maybe a quiet exit is more ideal.
